Further down Pollokshaws Road at numberand just visible behind the United Free Church, is Shawlands Old Parish Church. It was designed by John A Campbell of John Burnet, Son & Campbell and built between and The facade fronting the Cross was modelled on Dunblane Cathedral and the three stained glass windows which remain today.

The district of Shawlands and the village of Crossmyloof, which included the junction of Pollokshaws Road and Langside Avenue in the Conservation Area, developed rapidly during the 19th Century.

Over time, the number of inhabitants in this largely artisanal and industrial area had nearly doubled due to the formation of significant local businesses, such as the Camphill.

The way was now clear for the church building to go ahead. Messrs Baldie & Tennant, Glasgow, were appointed architects and the site was cleared. On Septem the memorial stone was laid. Indedicated citizens banded together to purchase and save this heritage building from demolition. The interior focus of the House-Church was transformed to an emphasis on the artwork of the inner surfaces of the building and a careful introduction of natural light to the interior. In this way, the Christian faith was symbolized in terms of a building, the spaces that composed the interior, and the way light came into the building.
